Progress update and media release

Progress on The Kepler Experiment has been steady since my last update in July. Below are some screenshots highlighting areas I've been working on. Naturally, these are all works in progress.

Work continues on other, less shareable features such as enemy AI, voice acting and various gameplay systems. After just over a year of development, the game is beginning to feel more like a complete experience rather than a mere proof of concept, which is incredibly encouraging.

As you can perhaps see from the screenshots, Kepler shares a lot of visual similarities to The Apocalypse, and even the setting and atmosphere are somewhat similar. In many respects, Kepler is shaping up to be a hybrid of two of my mods, Dissolution and The Apocalypse, with a strong survival-horror influence layered on top.

Several features from The Apocalypse are being adapted for Kepler—the personal journal, inventory system, dangerous enemies and audio/text logs. However, unlike in The Apocalypse, players will be armed, adding a more classic horror FPS element. My goal is for each enemy encounter to feel genuinely dangerous, encouraging players to scavenge for supplies and stay vigilant to survive.

I mentioned in my previous post that I’m hoping to release a trailer at some point. There’s still a chance I will do so before the year is out, but increasingly it’s looking like something I’ll do in Q1 2025.

Thanks to everybody who has been following me here on IndieDB/ModDB, and also for the many kind words of encouragement.
